The RA President, President of the Chess Federation of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended the solemn opening of the World Individual Deaf Chess Championship held at the Tigran Petrossian Chess House. The tournament will be held in 7 subgroups with the participation of 120 chess players from 24 countries and will last till May 26. The President of FIDE Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Yerevan Mayor, the President of Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan, the President of the International Chess Federation of the Deaf (ICSC) Philip Gardner, representatives of the Chess Federation of Armenia were present at the event. The RA President and the FIDE President made the first moves at the chessboard signaling the start of the tournament. Before the ceremony the RA President, the FIDE President and Yerevan Mayor paid the memory tribute to Tigran Petrossian laying flowers at his memorial.

Together with Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov the RA President Serzh Sargsyan took part in the solemn ceremony of opening the children and youth sport school in Shengavit administrative district. This school is the largest sport school in Yerevan. The President of the country accompanied by the Mayor of Yerevan walked about the area of the completely renovated and equipped school. The school has 21 groups with 240 pupils each. According to the officials, this sport and educational center can accommodate up to 450 pupils.
