Within the frames of the program of reconstruction of the water lines and canals feeding the capital one of the largest sources, Garni water line, has been completely renovated. The honour of solemn opening was given to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and the Governor of Kotayk marz Karapet Guloyan. Accompanied by the First Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan and the head of «Yerevan Jur» CJSC Gor Grigoryan Taron Margaryan walked about the area and familiarized himself with the work done. Presenting the Mayor the volumes of the program Gor Grigoryan noted that the water line had never been repaired. Particularly, the water collectors badly needed repairing.
It was noted that within the scope of the program, at the own costs of «Yerevan Jur» CJSC, AMD 95 million was spent on the work by the developer in the period from June to October. The goal of the work is to provide further proper operation of the water line. The persons in charge also reported the Mayor that the iron-concrete covers of 18 water collectors had been repaired, their external and internal walls had been renovated, the inside platforms, doors and windows were repaired, the waterproof cover of the roofs was renovated, valves and junctions were modernized, a new electricity cables were installed. Besides, some other sources discovered during the work have been included in the system and the previous sources have been used more efficiently.
«The Mayor set a clear demand to provide the quality of water supply in Yerevan and as a result of coordinated cooperation significant work has been carried out in recent years. Garni water line was constructed in 1971 and no repairing has been done up to now About 36 km of water pipes from here feed Erebuni, Shengavit, Nubarashen and Kentron districts of Yerevan and the implementation of this program was an important investment which would prolong the life of the system for at least 50 years», said Gor Grigoryan.
The First Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan attaching importance to the program said that the reliability of the water sources of the capital is the most important precondition of proper quality of water supply in the capital. There were already badly damaged segments of the water line as no repairing had been done for years and it caused both quality decrease and water loss. This policy of the company aimed at the improvement of water supply quality is of big significance and it's important that it will be lasting», said Kamo Areyan.
Familiarizing himself with the work done the Mayor outlined the importance of consistent activity aimed at the improvement of the general quality of water supply so that 24-hour water supply could be provided in Yerevan in the nearest future. Taron Margaryan also added that Yerevan Municipality would go on assisting within its powers in the implementation of the programs carried out by the company in the direction of proper water supply.
